The Elephant Man

I am amazed at the life of Joseph Merrick (The Elephant Man), and I have begun writing a song about how closely his thoughts, dreams, fears, aspirations and worries mirror my own feelings toward life and love.

He was an amazing poet and songwriter, and I feel honored to be inspired by him.

"Tis true my form is something odd,
But blaming me is blaming God.
Could I create myself anew, I would not fail in pleasing you.
If I could reach from pole to pole, Or grasp the ocean with a span,
I would be measured by the Soul,
The mind's the standard of the Man."

No Longer King

I officially lost my title as "King of the Diamond Lane" yesterday at around 4:30 p.m. Pacific daylight time. I was issued a $101 dollar ticket for an H.O.V. violation (High Occupancy Vehicle), these lanes are reserved for cars carrying two or more persons.
So after one year of Royalty, I have to step down and join everyone else who waits in traffic.
Musically speaking, I am finishing and polishing these songs, and hope to start playing them out around december. I have decided that this new computer recording is a better fit for me right now rather than the studio, although the studio is more fun. I am compiling some 60 sec snips of songs and have named them the "Naked Sessions" mainly because there are no effects of any kind....me, my voice, and my guitar.

Studio

So I have 2 songs completed in a 3 song demo. The vocals are going good, and the atmosphere in the studio is really cool. I will post some pics of the studio soon. Unfortunately there are no other musicians on the demo yet. But the former drummer for the 90's band SVENGALI, is going to lay down some drums....and in the words of Chris Martin...."Wewl das cooo(without the british accent..."Well that's cool"

It's about time

I am heading into the recording process to get about 3 songs down so that I can shop for band members. I will be working with a seasoned vet as far as music and recording so I am happy about that.

If you want a copy of the demo, ask for it via this page. It should be done in about a month and a half, but a lot depends on other musicians and such. I am going to try to get an entire "Band" sound.

Too Much Music

It seems that I write music, then as I am writing lyrics, I keep getting ideas for music. I like it, but I have tons of songs that still need to be finished.
So we went to the beach which will be one of my last free days for awhile.

I can't wait to get lost inside of writing all of the lyrics for these songs. But until I have music for you to hear, go ahead and listen to John Corbett........"Bottle Of Whiskey" and "Good to Go" are my personal favorites.

Wasting Days

I am currently on the search for musicians to join me in my musical interests. I really need to have the interaction with other instruments in a jam band type of setting.

It makes me really nervous because I am going to have to steal people away from the bands that they are already involved with. The better the musician, the better the band, thus, the harder to lure them away. It's something that I have never done before, and honestly, I'm really nervous about it.

I have been talking to this amazing musician by the name of Aiko Shimada. Follow the link and listen to her song called "You" off of her cd "Like Hanna". The instrumentation is absolutely amazing. It has a lot of the same type of feel that I am going for in an album.

I'm in the middle of two of the best songs I've written so far so I'm excited about that. One isn't named yet, and the other one is called "Wasting Days". Some day I'll put some songs on here so they can be heard.....or I might just have to go the myspace route. All in good time.

Lazy Afternoon

I took a break on Saturday from writing music and running laps to spend some time in the city. Although I know the area quite well, and have seen almost everything twice, I like the idea of being immersed in something that seems so much bigger than me.

I love going to record stores in Seattle because the clerks have absolutely no idea if they have something or not....Most don't use computer systems.......its all cash and memory--"If you don't see it, then we don't have it" sort of deal. So when you find something neat, it's as though you have found a little treasure that the owner didn't even know was in the store. For some strange reason, I really like that.

Under city lights

So I have some pictures that I took on New Years Eve '06. Seattle has given me many ideas for an album cover, although it seems that I have too many ideas for a cover, and no album to put in it.

This weblog is a sort of "Safety in numbers" for me. It's kinda strange to be in a completely different world and be forced to share your most secretive thoughts with complete strangers.

It might sound stupid and maybe it is, but I guess I like the thought that I might not be the only one going down this road...by sharing my ideas and thoughts with everyone else, hopefully in a creative way, maybe I can see that we are all, in a way, partners in crime.
